January 5th 2019 Breaking Bread Luncheon @ Bar Louie was a wonderful success!

Our friends came out to enjoy an afternoon with us – and the food was amazing… We reconnected with old friends and made some new ones – which is what our breaking bread fellowship lunches are all about. As we ready ourselves for the upcoming 2019 riding season, we take these moments to give thanks for our CSBA Friends and Family.

An Attitude of Gratitude …
“Consider your ways…”
HAGGAI 1:5

Making New Year’s resolutions and not keeping them is a universal experience. We may be sincere when we make them, but then we find them too hard to keep, or perhaps we forget all about them.

Here’s two reasons why it can be good to make resolutions at the beginning of a new year: First, it forces us to look at ourselves – to be honest about our failures and our need to affect change. Many Yew Year’s resolutions are unrealistic at best or only wishful thinking, but the exercise of examining ourselves (with God’s help) and seeing where we fall short is important.

Second, making a list of resolutions can help turn us to God. If we are honest, we know we fall far short of being what we ought to be, of what we feel our true potential is – and because of that, we need God’s help and possibly his forgiveness depending on our short-comings. On close study, we’ll also realize that we can’t live the way we should in our own strength. We truly need God’s help to reach our full potential. You know the saying, “Reach for and use your God given talent…”.

So, you might ask – where do I start? As today’s passage title highlights – a great place to start is with your “Attitude”. Adopting an “Attitude of Gratitude” will be a great start for any pursuit. God loves a winning attitude. A very happy person is usually not that way because all their desires in life are met, but more so because they have learned how to be grateful for all the things they currently have. This is a tough lesson to master, but dwell on this for just one moment. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be your best and attain the best, but we must learn to enjoy where we are right now too. Mastering this will assure you true happiness as you hit your goals on your list. A good gratitude story is “The Samaritan Leper” as told in Luke 17:11-19.

Jesus was passing through a village in Samaria when He encountered a group of ten (10) men who suffered from leprosy. The men cried out for Jesus to have mercy on them. Jesus heard their cries and healed them. He instructed the men to show themselves to the local priest so that they could be ceremonially cleansed. The men did as they were instructed, and then nine (9) of them went their separate ways. Perhaps they left to celebrate their healing, or to share the good news with their loved ones. All we know is they were eager to rejoin society and begin their new lives. The tenth (10th) person was equally excited to start a new life, but according to LUKE 17: 15-16, he “returned, and with a loud voice gave glory to God, and fell down on this face at [Jesus’ feet], giving His thanks.”

Jesus was very moved by the man’s response, which must have been almost as rewarding to the man as the healing itself. The lesson here is God is moved by our gratitude for him, just as any parent would be for their child doing something thoughtful for them. Learn to adopt an “Attitude of Gratitude”. I think you’ll be amazed just how powerful this can be.

Begin this year by making resolutions – especially the resolution to open your heart and life to Jesus Christ. Doing so might just make your other items on your 2019 list that much easier to reach! If you don’t know the Lord and want to learn more about him, please don’t hesitate to talk with me, or your friends here. The CSBA serves as your Godly guide and as a light to help guide you, not only for your riding, but for your spirit too. Don’t be afraid to ask – that is why we are here. Blessings!
